Measurements and surveys carried out by MANGANO, SOPES and SEA.

Surveys and measurements carried out by partners MANGANO, SOPES and SEA for the realization of the demonstrators at the desalination plants of Ustica and Lipari (managed by partner SOPES). At these plants there will be realized the demonstration installations of both hydroelectric and photovoltaic generation with concentrated storage. On the island of Favignana (managed by partner SEA) there will be realized photovoltaic and storage plants distributed in several double-elevation secondary substations. The generation and storage plants will be connected to the grid by means of the innovative bidirectional inverters designed and built by LAYER and managed from a smart grid perspective. In this sense, starting from the measurements of real consumption (measured by SEA and SOPES partners for various periods of the year), INM-CNR and UNIPA have carried out studies and simulations on the impact of the increase in distributed photovoltaic production at different points of the grid (the most significant is in the morning hours of the spring periods of low tourist season) and on the optimal management of the storage systems and the grid in order to avoid power flow reversals, production bias and unwanted disconnections. This demonstrates how the smart grid is the only effective way to encourage increased generation from renewable sources and thus the real de-carbonization of the islands.
